Multifunctional panels for medical technology

The highly integrated EA uniTFT050 TFT touch panel was specially developed for use in compact medical devices. Thanks to a comprehensive command set and object-based layout software, modern user interfaces can be created conveniently using drag-and-drop , even without expert knowledge.

Clear displays, menu structures that are easy to understand at a glance - this is particularly important for displays in medical devices. In the hectic daily hospital routine, reading and operating errors have fatal consequences for the health of patients.
ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY designed the EA uniTFT050 color TFT display precisely for this purpose.
Even during the development of this display series, the focus was on the special requirements for medical technology components. Development and production are carried out under strict quality management in accordance with ISO 9001:2015.
Thanks to its compact 5-inch screen diagonal (136 cm x 96 cm), the uniTFT050 is ideal for use in medical devices. However, it still offers a vector graphic display of 800 x 480 pixels. The extremely fast image refresh rate of 50 fps ensures a streak-free display even with moving objects and animations. The maximum brightness of 900 cd/m² guarantees a high-contrast display in all lighting conditions, including direct sunlight.
In the EA uniTFT050-A variant, the panel is intended purely as a display. The EA uniTFT050-ATC is also equipped with a capacitive multi-touch surface. Like a smartphone, this display reacts to various finger gestures. Even behind a four millimeter thick glass pane or when wearing thin gloves.
The screens can be ordered in any quantity and are available for a long time. ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY simplifies the complex medical certification processes with an EMC report.

Convenient drag-and-drop screen layout
Thanks to the integrated command set and the graphical editor "uniSKETCH for Windows", even less technically inclined developers can create graphically appealing screen pages and ergonomically designed user guides. The developer is supported by standardized stylesheets that can be individually adapted, as well as an extensive library of graphically appealing objects, including rotary and slider controls. The properties of all screen elements, such as shape, color, position or stored actions, can be edited at any time. The commands for this are either stored as macros on the integrated microSD card, but can also be read in at runtime via the serial interface.
Images in all common formats (jpg, png, svg, etc.) can be easily integrated into the layout. Audio files can also be played as required, for example to indicate an alarm or error acoustically. Variable transparency (alpha blending), the soft appearance or sideways movement of messages or touch buttons can be used to direct the user's attention.
International use has also been considered: thanks to the freely scalable vector display and Unicode support, even Chinese characters are no problem. The developer can manage the various translations of the texts to be displayed in a kind of database and send them out for translation. The complete instruction set is integrated into the modules. Using the integrated, battery-backed time base, not only can events be documented with a time stamp on the integrated microSD card, but processes can also be controlled autonomously.
Rich interface bouquet
The screen modules are operated with 3.3 V. All panels have a USB interface for programming (flashing) or later operation. The modules also offer six serial interfaces: Two each RS232, SPI and I²C connections. The serial interfaces are used for communication with a higher-level controller (host), but can also be used with sensors or actuators. Four analog inputs with the option of automatic response and a PWM output for control tasks are also permanently integrated. 16 I/O interfaces, which can be expanded up to 128, round off the range. Camera images can be shown directly on the display via the analog video input and stored as hardcopy images on the integrated microSD card for documentation purposes.

Three sizes, three variants
In addition to the uniTFT050-A and uniTFT050-ATC models with a 5" diagonal, ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY currently manufactures the intelligent modules in two further sizes and three variants: The EA uniTFT070 is 7 inches in size and has 1,024 x 600 pixels; the largest EA uniTFT101 measures 10.1 inches and has 1,280 x 800 pixels. These displays are also available both as a pure display and with a multi-touch surface. In addition, the "-ATP" model variant is equipped with a resistive, i.e. pressure-sensitive touch surface. Although this input technology does not understand modern finger gestures, it is more suitable for robust use. It can be operated reliably with any pen and even with thick gloves.
To get an impression of the capabilities of the new display series, ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY offers an interactive demo app "uniTFT" for Android and iOS smartphones.
