Chip on glass text and graphic displays with SPI (serial interface)

Chip on glass text displays and graphic displays with SPI (modern serial interface) and parallel 4-bit/8-bit

With the EA DOG series, ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY tries to offer different display sizes with the same idea: These extremely compact COG (chip on glass) modules can be combined with different backlights and are therefore suitable for every conceivable application.

The control of the DOG series is very simple. The power supply is kept as simple as possible and compatible with the microcontroller world at 3.3V, both for the display and for the backlight. The control options are either parallel in 4-bit or 8-bit mode or with SPI, i.e. a serial interface. The serial interface is particularly impressive with its speed and resource-saving manner. Serial operation only requires four ports on the controller, which means that it can also be connected to any SPI bus already present on the controller. The serial interface is a special feature and is not found on normal standard text displays. Serial interfaces simplify the hardware and save pins. The speed of a serial interface is absolutely sufficient.

The simple start with the DOG series should also be mentioned. ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY offers a USB test board for connection to Windows PCs, a touch panel with analog 4-wire interface and a range of character sets with font editor as accessories. Additional fonts, for example in Cyrillic, Greek or Arabic script, can be derived from the Windows system fonts.
