Seamless temperature recording via WLAN

Recording the storage temperature is mandatory for medicines that require refrigeration. ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY's handy EA WLAN-TH WLAN data logger continuously measures temperature and humidity and transmits its measured values wirelessly to a PC, tablet and the cloud.

As a rule, vaccines must be stored in a cool place between +2° Celsius and +8° Celsius until they are used. For medical practices, DIN 58345 therefore stipulates, among other things, that the refrigerator temperature must be monitored and documented every working day using a min-max thermometer. This ensures that a cooling failure is noticed at a later date. However, if the malfunction occurs at night or at the weekend, the effectiveness of the vaccines may be jeopardised. Valuable medicines have to be destroyed or are administered anyway.

With the handy EA WLAN-TH WLAN data logger from Electronic Assembly, the cooling temperature can be permanently monitored without much effort and at low cost. The device, which is only the size of the palm of your hand, measures temperature and humidity at the installation site without the need for an additional sensor. It not only stores its measured values internally, but also transmits them at adjustable intervals via WiFi 802.11b to any computer or tablet in the same network on which the free recording app is running. If desired, the EA WLAN-TH can also send the data to the manufacturer's cloud server with WPA/WPA2 encryption. They can then be accessed from anywhere in the world and from any location with an internet connection. This is particularly practical when medicine fridges at different locations need to be monitored centrally.

The EA WLAN-TH measures temperatures from -20° Celsius to +60° Celsius with an accuracy of ±0.3° Celsius. Alternatively, the temperatures can also be displayed and documented in Fahrenheit. Two freely definable alarm thresholds allow intervention before damage occurs. The data logger records the relative humidity between 10% and 90% with an accuracy of ± 2.0%. The measuring intervals can be set from ten seconds to twelve hours. The data transmission times can be varied between one minute and 24 hours. If the network connection is temporarily interrupted, the device saves the measurement data in its internal memory until it can communicate with the recording app or the cloud again. With the shortest measurement interval, the memory lasts for 120 days. A recording PC can therefore be safely shut down at the end of the working day without losing any data.

With a typical transmission interval of five minutes and room temperature, the capacity of the lithium-ion battery in the EA WLAN-TH lasts for a good year. An alarm is signalled before the battery runs out. Any USB power supply unit or PC can be used for charging. The stored data is retained even when the battery is exhausted.

The data logger can either be placed free-standing at the measuring location or attached to a wall using the bracket supplied. It is protected against water jets in accordance with protection class IP55. Its 15 millimetre high measured value display is easy to read even from a distance of more than five metres.

The free downloadable recording app is available for Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android. It graphically displays the measured values of several EA WLAN-THs and allows them to be exported to Excel for further processing and reporting.

The WLAN data logger is also available as EA WLAN-T+ with a measuring accuracy of ±0.15°C and as EA WLAN-TP or EA WLAN-TC with external temperature sensors.
