Localisation system reliably detects hidden cables and pipes in the ground

The safe location of underground cables and pipes minimises the risk of accidents during civil engineering work and saves money, time and nerves. sebaKMT, a subsidiary of the Megger Group and a specialist in cable and object location, has developed the Easyloc series, a handy location system to detect these sources of danger in the ground quickly and safely. The system consists of the Easyloc TX transmitter and the handy Easyloc RX receiver. It is available in four different versions. Various accessories are also available, such as a clamp for contactless application of the locating signal to live cables or various probes for locating non-conductive pipes. The receiver unit can also be used for depth measurement without a transmitter.

sebaKMT uses the high-contrast LCD super twist panel EA DOGM128W-6 from DISPLAY VISIONS as the display element in the locating receiver. The transflective FSTN graphic panel with a black display on a white background is designed for compact hand-held devices. It has a resolution of 128 x 64 pixels with a dotgap of just 15 µm. Despite a generous viewing window of 51 x 31 mm, the external dimensions are only 55 x 46 mm. With an installation depth of 2.0 mm, the unlit panel is also extremely flat. Even in combination with the white EA LED55x46-W backlight, the installation depth increases to just 5.8 mm. The display does not require any complex assembly as it can be soldered directly into the PCB with its 26 pins. After installation, a one-off contrast adjustment is required, but thanks to the integrated temperature compensation, the display then remains stable in a range of -20 to 70 °C. It is controlled via a serial SPI 4-wire interface with unidirectional data transfer. In contrast to other displays, no busy queries are therefore necessary. The supply voltage can be selected in a wide range, from 1.8 V (dual power) to 3.3 V (single supply), whereby the panel typically draws only 270 µA, the white LED illumination runs from around 5 mA...
